with Sybille van Zuylen (PENNA VOLANS)
Class Description
In this class, European Running Hand: Flow and Flourish, Sybille van Zuylen (Penna Volans) will guide you to investigate the changes that the Industrial Revolution brought to the English Round Hand, aim to understand the essence of the 19th century Running Hand, and learn to include its interesting nuances into our own practice.
To better grasp the subtleties of the style, we will explore the works of various 19th century European masters. Their printed and manuscript works will teach us how to move freely and efficiently to write a flowy running hand which became the standard handwriting style of the century. We will also unlock variations of capitals, as well as the tricky art of "movement flourishing" and ornamentation.
Learning the Running hand is a great way to confidently introduce movement and spontaneity into your pointed pen work, to add a slightly modern twist to the traditional English Round Hand and Copperplate.
